1967.6.14 MARINER 5 carried out its mission on Venus

Venus' probe, MARINER 5, was weighted 244 kg and launched by SLV-3C rockets at Cape Canaveral successfully.

MARINER 5 originally was used to backup MARINER 6 probe but later it was applied to Venus Exploration.

MARINER 5 flight by Venus at the altitude of 3, 990 km on October 19, 1967 and was equipped with more advanced equipment than MARINER 2. It also probed Venus's atmosphere with radio waves, scan its brightness in ultraviolet light, and sample the solar particles and magnetic field fluctuations above the planet. Later, it proved that carbon dioxide composes the most of the atmosphere of Venus. The mission of MARINER 5 had been continuing till November, 1967.
